“This is undoubtedly the most special coffee I’ve had the chance to work on at Smooth Coffee Co.

The Leguizamo family is a cultural keystone in the coffee growing community of Colombia, investing time and money in their fellow farmers to support a more equitable and excellent specialty coffee producing culture. The family is now establishing one of the first specialty cafes in Colombia to give their community access to taste the results of their hard work.

In 2011, the Leguizamos and Finca el Fadon made history at the Cup of Excellence, an annual auction-based competition held in every major coffee producing country. That year, a lot from Finca el Fadon took first prize with an unprecedented sale price of $45/lb. The average price for coffee in Colombia that year was $2.75/lb.

Nearly a decade and a half later, the Leguizamos are still producing exceptional coffees and this offering is absolutely no exception.

This microlot is traceable not only to Finca el Fadon, but to a single variety grown in a single sub-section of the farm. This level of traceability is extremely uncommon in the world of coffee, but is just common practice for the Leguizamos. This entire microlot also consists only of two 60kg bags, both of which we purchased, making this a Smooth Coffee Co. exclusive offering.

The variety is called Caturra, “a naturally occurring dwarf mutation of Bourbon” (Cafe Imports), and is renowned for its delicate, refined nature. Sweetness akin to grade A maple with a generous citric sparkle and body like brut make this a comfortable stunner of a cup.

I cannot begin to convey just how grateful I am to be able to present such a renowned producer’s coffee to the world, and I hope this offering appropriately honors their incredible work. Please enjoy.

With love,

Noah
